Living Sculpture Shuffle, 2017, 12 minutes, Where is the Art? Oxford

This performance consists of manipulating traditional principals of sculpture, namely, Greek Sculptures. The performer acts as a ‘sculpture’ interacting untraditionally and comically within the space. I wear a helmet on my head, which creates alienation between the artist and the viewer, creating a unique experience within the gallery. To create humour I will shuffle my feet along the floor with the helmet on. This created a comical performance and also has the sense of awkwardness, as the performer won’t be able to see where I, as the performer, am going. The movement makes the ‘sculpture’ look like it is struggling and restricted and even out of place and taken out of the traditional white cube gallery.
